Who we are
Heather Berens MD, PhD received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001. She received her PhD in Microbiology in 2011 and her MD in 2013 at University of Colorado Anschutz Campus. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2016 and her fellowship in Rheumatology in 2019, both at the University of Colorado. Her research in rheumatology has focused on the development of autoantibodies in rheumatoid arthritis and how Epstein Barr Virus may contribute to developing rheumatoid arthritis. She is board certifed in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Dr. Berens treats all rheumatologic conditions. She is particularly specialized in rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
